NEWPanorama 2018 is just around the corner, new music for arrangers to give their magic touch to transform music into masterpieces for pan lovers around the world. -
This month we feature a relatively new power house in the steel pan world VANESSA ALEXANDRA HEADLEY - she was born into a musical family and started playing the steel pan at the age of four. By age 12 she was afforded the opportunity to compose and arrange for her steel band Golden Hands, which was founded by her mother Franka Hills-Headley .
Vanessa has explored but not exhausted all the musical nuances of the Steel pan. As a soloist and ensemble member, composer and arranger she has won 85 championship trophies and awards, including placing first in the Caribbean in CSEC Music and being declared National Youth in the sphere of Arts and Culture in 2015.
After successfully arranging for her band for Junior Panorama for three years she was asked to arrange for Golden Hands' first appearance in the National Panorama Small Band category in 2010. History & Audience Profile
Boston’s Caribbean American community celebrated its first Trinidad Style Carnival in 1973. It was founded by Ken Bonaparte Mitchell (1942 -2008). In the 42 years of its existence, it has grown from a couple of bands and limited support to over several dozen bands and attracts an estimated 300,000 visitors each year.
They arrive from cities across North America, and the Caribbean. Several Caribbean countries are represented in the parade such as Jamaica, Barbados, Antigua, Dominica, Haiti and Trinidad & Tobago. Several African countries and American High School parade bands have participated.

J’ouvert or Jouvay is at the heart of Trinidad carnival, and is also celebrated in other Eastern Caribbean islands. The name J’ouvert originates from the French jour ouvert, meaning day break or morning, and signals the start of the bacchanalia that is Carnival.
