J'ouvert is a large street party celebrated in Trinidad and Tobago and many of the other Caribbean islands. It starts well before dawn and usually peaks a few hours after sunrise.
Here in Boston the tradition continues. The Jāouvert has been an integral part of the celebration for over ten year. It organizers are Althea Etienne, Henry Antoine Mrs. Phil Antoine and Andre Modestee, and it is the fastest growing segment of Boston Carnival when compared to the king and Queen Show, Kiddies Carnival and the parade. About 5,000 to 8,000 individual participate every year, the numbers of band participating are growing
Overall many of the organization's supporters come form across the United States and Canada and several different islands are represented, such as Jamaica and Haiti.
